Hackney Wick

Guide to Hackney Wick

On the boundaries of the London borough of Hackney and the London borough of Tower Hamlets, Hackney Wick is an area that has been rejuvenated by the London Olympics in 2012. Including the west side of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park within its district, the area was one of the main transport cores of the games.

Hackney is known as London’s greenest borough with over 60 parks and green spaces, and The Wick, as it is fondly referred to, is no exception. The famous Hackney Marshes, the home of Sunday league football, is situated in Hackney Wick and Victoria Park is only a short distance away.

There are bohemian industrial buildings perfect for artists, as well as thousands of new homes as part of the legacy of the Olympic Park, and other purpose built apartments and flats.

The regeneration afforded by the 2012 Olympics has granted the area a new lease of life. For example, The Hackney Wick Stadium, formerly used for Greyhound Racing and Speedway was closed in 2003. However, it was reopened as the BBC’s broadcast and media centre for the Olympic Games and is now being used as commercial space.

As expected, there is a variety of property options available in the area, from bohemian industrial buildings perfect for artists, to thousands of new homes as part of the legacy of the Olympic Park, and other purpose built apartments and flats.

The regeneration has also brought a plethora of bars and restaurants to the area. Check out some of the links below for some of the areas most popular (and undiscovered gems!).
